Looking for a way to contribute in a positive way to your workplace? It could be as simple as bringing your green thumb with you to work. Planting the workplace is not a new idea in itself. We have known for many years of plant's ability to provide fresh air, help eliminate pollutants that are already present in the air, create a more relaxed working environment, increase productivity, improve recruitment and retention of top employees, and make the workplace overall healthier and happier. If a happier, healthier staff isn't enough- there is also a monetary value associated with growing plants at work. The cost of air conditioning in the summer months can be greatly reduced or even eliminated in some offices with the addition of a green wall. From a marketing perspective, plants are a great way to take advantage of the 209 billion dollars spent each year by consumers who want to support businesses that they feel are "green" or sustainable. These customers want to support green building, renewable energy, energy efficiency, organics, pollution prevention, and water conservation. What is perceived as the most “green” by this growing, hard-to- define market? Plants are, of course. What LGM5s bring to the table is the ability to grow plants anywhere. If you do not have an extra wall to devote to plants- use our LED grow lights to grow in any space that is available with or without natural light. Picture a room full of cubicles with plants growing underneath. Picture a break room with fresh parsley, basil, or microgreens growing right on top of the fridge. Because of the low heat output, offices are still able to safely take advantage of the natural cooling provided by indoor gardens. By eliminating shock, glass, fire, mercury, and lead hazards LGM grow lights are a viable option for any area with room for a planter. According to the recent job satisfaction surveys, your planted contribution is needed now more than ever. --AL
Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote: "All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better." As an advocate for one of the most rapidly developing technologies in the world- I am immersed in life. Every advancement in LED grow lighting wipes the experimental slate clean and opens the door to a new understanding of how plants use light. After working with Universities and research facilities throughout the World, one high school student stands out. Matthew G. contacted SolarOasis in October of 2008 with interest in the Solar-Oasis Aqua- Bar for use in his inde- pendent science project. SolarOasis donated four Aqua-Bars to help him get started. When Matthew presented his experiment to his peers and mentors he was met with the usual skepticism associated with new technology. Instead of giving up, Matthew set out to prove them wrong. Matthew asked all of the right questions and as a result he quickly picked up the concepts distinguishing LED lighting from traditional aquarium lighting, enabling himself to present this new information to his teachers along with results which eventually brought everyone on board. Matthew grew soft corals from fragments to larger colonies within two months. Coraline algae spread quickly in the tank and overall the experiment was successful.
