The Test of Time For LED Plant Lights
Over the last 9 years since SolarOasis filed for the first patents in the
world on a LED plant light for commercial and hobby plant growth, we have
seen dozens of imitator products made available.   Without naming any
names, many of these companies have recently
attempted to cloud the market by putting together
disparaging ads against the market leader,
SolarOasis.   As the global representative of
SolarOasis technology, we would like to respond
    with some facts.
After several years of research, SolarOasis
applied for the first patent in the world, an a LED
plant, light in June of 2003.    You can review this
original patent here.  SolarOasis now holds over
12 patents granted or pending representing
advancements over the last 9 years.  Our
products are currently used by many of the
leading research institutes in the country.  You can find a list of our notable
clients here.    You can read what our clients are saying here.  Shakespeare

        Water Accompaniments
Providing plants with an essential supply of water no more, no less is
the ideal for any watering regime.  The indoor gardener has a leg-up on
traditional gardeners simply by being able to control the amount of water
each plant receives.  But just because we can, doesn't mean we all do.   My
indoor garden is a true Hobby garden.  I run the LEDs 24 hours a day but
other than the lighting, my plants are on no schedule for feeding,
transplanting, or watering.  Sometimes I leave it neglected for weeks and
sometimes I will "over care" and water 4 times a week simply because I can't
remember which ones  I already watered.   The first signal I usually see
to indicate to myself that I am in the process of over caring for my indoor
    garden is the gnat.
Water sustains life for more than just your plants.  If you see tiny
grayish black flies running along your pots or soil when you water, it's most
likely the fungus gnat.  Fungus gnats thrive in the damp soil of over watered
plants.  The larvae feed on your roots
and can get into the stem of plants.
Adults flit from plant to plant spreading
plant disease and fungus from one to
the next.  The good news is that an
adult gnat has an estimated life span of
only a week but the bad news is each
female lays over 100 eggs in that week.
The best method of dealing with
fungus gnats is prevention.  Stop over
watering the plants.  Since over watering
is the number one killer of indoor plants
and LED gardeners are even more
prone to the problem; I'm going to
    assume that despite good intentions,
    over watering will continue.  Once
prevention is no longer an option, a
good first step is to find some food grade hydrogen peroxide (35%).  Food
grade H2O2 should be handled with care.  You can dilute it to three percent
by mixing it one part to eleven parts water (preferably distilled). The storage
container should be opaque to prevent light from getting in and it must be
able to hold some pressure.  You can also buy 3% H2O2 at any drug store
but the 35% should last you.
Once the hydrogen peroxide is diluted to 3% take one part of the
solution and mix it with 4 parts distilled water.  Wait till your plants have dried
out and water with the mix until the water runs through.  You should only
need to use this solution once.  If you are a chronic overwaterer, you can
start with 1 tsp then work into 2 1/2 tsp of the 3% mixture per gallon of water
and use it all the time.  This first treatment should kill the larvae already in
the soil.  Adding a 1/2 inch of horticultural grade sand to the top of your soil
should prevent the adults from laying more eggs. --AL
