Do you ever wish that you had access to NASA's scientists, botanists, and plant researchers to solve your gardening problems? Now you do. Scientists at NASA's Johnson Space Center have been working since the mid 1980s to develop a simple yet high-performance, dependable root medium for plants. After years of research and testing, NASA developed and patented a unique growth medium using a type of zeolite called clinoptilolite that is mined on earth from ancient volcanic ash deposits. ZeoPro is an all-purpose plant food, soil amendment, and fertilizer scientifically designed, developed & licensed by NASA. It is an ecologically friendly product that enables indoor and outdoor plants to determine when they need nutrition. Utilizing a secret, patented, plant demand nutrient delivery system, ZeoPro is used by some of the largest commercial growers in the United States. ZeoPro provides the porosity and favorable water retention characteristics that are ideal for plants grown under LEDs. ZeoPro will enhance any soil, even clay or sandy soils with poor nutrient retention. It performs best when blended into natural soils and potting mixes. The plant and ZeoPro work together in forming a zeoculture whereby the nutrients, stored within the rigid honeycomb-like structure of ZeoPro are slowly and gently released into the plants root system generating optimal production of flowers, fruits, vegetables, and regenerative leaf cells. You will see superior results in plant growth and productivity with sustained flowering capacity and a substantial, responsive root mass to absorb nutrients when needed. ZeoPro provides an environmentally friendly alternative to current fertilizers. You can reduce fertilizing requirements by 50% to 75%! Coming soon to the LED Grow Master product line. In addition, some one thousand million (or one billion) people in over one hundred countries are at risk. These people include many of the world's poorest, most marginalized, and politically weak citizens. (Source: The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification: An Explanatory Leaflet) Worldwide, desertification is making approximately 12 million hectares useless for cultivation every year. This is equal to 10% of the total area of South Africa or 87% of the area of cultivated lands in our country. One of the effects of desertification is the undermining of local food production which can act as a contributing factor towards famine. By impoverishing the natural potential of the ecosystems, desertification reduces agricultural yields, making them more unpredictable. It therefore affects the food security of the people living in the affected areas. The people develop a survival strategy in order to attend to their most urgent requirements, and this in turn helps to aggravate desertification and hold up development. The most immediate and frequent consequence of these survival attitudes is the increased over-exploitation of accessible natural resources. While there are a number of organizations working to slow and even reverse this trend, there are millions of people who are currently facing food shortages as a direct result of desertification. What if there was a way to grow food in the desert using a fraction of the resources needed for traditional farming? Growing underground is a technology that could happen today. Envision a large underground structure, buried deep enough to prevent the scorching desert sun from overheating the grow rooms. No need for cooling or heating thanks to mother earth. The growing would be done with led grow lights, using a small array of photo voltaic panels on the surface, backed up by a battery room within the grow room. Year around crops of vegetables, wheat, or whatever the market needs. All free of pests, pesticides, wind damage, using only sips of water and nutrient due to the non-hostile growing environment of LGM lighting. Large growing operations could be setup in the deserts of the world, where land is inexpensive and food is in high demand. Worth researching? We think so... CEO SolarOasis ***************************************************************** NFT Systems One of the most prominent problems experienced by home gardeners is over watering. It is considered the number one killer of house plants and becomes even more likely when placed under LED grow lights that cause little evaporation because of the low heat output. A solution to this problem as well as greater efficiency, can be found in the use of NFT (Nutrient Film Technique). NFT is uniquely simple. It involves a shallow film of nutrient solution (nutrient & water) constantly recirculating past the roots of plants. NFT is very easy to operate. You need not be an expert in any skill, gardening or otherwise, to obtain the benefits. NFT systems have been in use for many years and are recently becoming popular among commercial growers- especially those growing fast growing crops. NFT greatly reduces the time it will take for your plants to reach maturity. It is also much easier to obtain excellent yields in NFT than using traditional methods. It is probable that yield increases are due to a number of factors. The NFT system eliminates the wetting and drying cycle because roots never dry out. Other advantages include access to nutrients, absence of root disease typical in soil grown plants, freedom from weeds, and an unlimited supply of oxygen because roots are in direct contact with the air. For many high volume consumable crops, NFT/LGM5 systems are the most efficient method of plant cultivation available. Using only 1/10th of the water, one third of the space, a fraction of the minerals, and little or no waste to contaminate the environment, NFT/LGM5 systems put us closer to our goal of sustainability by pairing the highest efficiency plant growth system (NFT), with the most electrically efficient, spectrally rich, and durable plant light source (LGM5). --AL |
