LED Gardener

    NFT Experiments
Alfred State, Suny College of Technology is putting together a model for
sustainable agriculture in Alfred, New York.  Funded in part by a grant from
the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets to work with
farmers on season extension and vegetable production.  The greenhouse
will provide a learning center for students and an excellent source of data for
growers looking for an efficient means of production.
Dr. Matthew Harbur, Program Director for Organic and Sustainable
Agriculture, has worked closely with LED Grow Master to create a variety of
systems.  Herbs and baby lettuce bouquets will be grown for use in the
Alfred State cafeteria.  Upon completion, the greenhouse will show working
models of the NFT system, Ebb and Flow systems, and Aquaponics.
Supplemental lighting has been provided by LED Grow Master and will be
used in a mixture of configurations for testing purposes.
For growers that need to see to believe- this is an ideal situation.  Alfred
State has agreed to make their data and pictures available to the public.
The greenhouse is currently being fitted with web cams and a learning group
will be invited to work with the systems upon completion.  If you are
interested in following the progress of our led grow lights at Alfred State, we
will be sharing links and data through our website www.led-grow-master.com.

    Hybrid Systems
One of the easiest ways to see the benefits of led grow lights without
changing your overall routine, is to use them in a hybrid system.  Many
indoor gardeners have already developed a routine under HID.
Conventional grow lights run from several hundred degrees to over 1400
degrees Fahrenheit at the bulb's surface. Although this heat is expensive
and harmful in excess, it is also partially responsible for the growth rates and
size of many indoor gardens.  By using LED Grow Master bars to
supplement this HID lighting, you are able to take advantage of the radiant
heat while dramatically increasing the efficiency of your system.
There are several options for hybrid systems.  One method would be to
turn on the HID lighting periodically throughout the day to heat your plant
canopy and leaving the LEDs to do their work in the intermissions.  This
example would significantly decrease your electricity and heat management
costs with minimal changes to your current system.
Large plants in an HPS system will benefit from adding led grow lights
directed at the lower canopy.  Bars can be mounted at the proper distance
from the sides of plants to gain productivity where plants are not receiving
adequate light from overhead HPS.  This is another example that provides
an opportunity to see the benefits of LEDs without a significant change in
your established routine.  There is no time like the present.--AL

    The SolarOasis Difference
The LED Grow Master grow line is developed and patented by the
researchers at SolarOasis.  Their grow lights were first introduced to the
public in 2003 and remain the only line of lighting that is patented for plant
growth.  There are many "grow lights" on the market- but they all have the
same problem:  they produce a lot of light that plants can't use very
    efficiently.
The SolarOasis grow light line was designed from the ground up,
optimized for plant growth, not human vision.  Using light emitting diodes,
they selected the colors of light plants use most efficiently for vigorous
growth and health.  The result is a plant grow light that uses very little
energy yet provides all the light your plants need to thrive indoors.  They
also used their specialized knowledge of LEDs to make sure each LED
operates optimally, providing maximum light output and maximum bulb life.
The wave of new LED panels being marketed as grow lights have caused
questions as to why we do not expand our line to offer a wider variety of LED
options.  The reason is simple.  SolarOasis is ten years ahead of anyone
else and is constantly striving towards new breakthroughs.  The result of
their hard work is a balanced spectrum of LEDs with advanced circuitry for
increased output and lifetime.  SolarOasis manufactures the LED Grow
Master line in the USA which allows for on-site quality control and high
standards of production.  When another company presents us with a grow
light that meets these standards, we will consider expanding to include
another line.  All grow lights are not created equal and SolarOasis is about
    to raise the bar again.--AL
