LED Gardener

  A Higher Standard- Part 1
All LED grow lights are not created equal.  Among the LED arrays available,
LED Grow Master Global chose SolarOasis technology because it was the most
efficient, spectrally rich, plant light on the market.  In fact, this is the only LED
grow light that is patented as a grow light at all.  Within the LGM line there are
differences as well.  We currently carry 5 versions of LED Grow Master lighting.
Three of them are the terrestrial models which will be the focus of this three part
    series.
The LGM1 is our standard model.  We recommend the LGM1 for veg and leafy
greens such as lettuce that are not expected/desired to bloom.  These LED grow
lights are designed for maximum performance at the manufacturer's recommended
hanging height of 12 to 14 inches.  The recommended height is for one standard bar
hung alone.  When LGM1 LEDs are placed in a multi-bar array (4 or more on a
SunMount) the light from each cluster blends and intensifies the light emitted.  When
used in this configuration the bars need to be 24" to 30" away from the tops or sides
of your plants.  This concept of proper placement is very important to the health of
your plants.  Unlike HID lighting, light emitting diodes have built in reflectors that
prevent the light from scattering throughout an area.  The grow lights must be
mounted within the parameters in order to properly blend the different wavelengths
    needed by your plants.
While our LGM3 and LGM5 LED grow lights will support growth and
development through all cycles of growth- there are advantages for certain markets
utilizing the LGM1 LEDs.  For instance, it is the most affordable model that uses the
least amount of electricity running on a mere 6 watts each.  If the bloom spectrum is
not needed or desired for your operation there is no need to pay for it. Although
plants may bloom under the LGM1 grow lights-  It is only the beginning...  Check
out September's issue to see what you can do with our professional model.  --AL

    Year Round Tomatoes
Consumer demand exists for a stable supply of high quality tomatoes.  Many
potential clients are forced to import tomatoes during the winter months.  It
makes economical sense to create a year round supply because this shortage of
local produce creates inflated prices during low production months.  So why
isn't everyone harvesting tomatoes in January?  Because the optimal growth and
yield of the tomato plant is attained with 14 hours of photo period and there are
few places in the US that get more than 4 months of this natural sunlight.
HPS lighting has been the most common solution for greenhouse growers
that want to take their business into winter production.  But there are difficulties
that have kept the majority of growers gardening in season.  HPS lighting uses a
significant amount of electricity as well as creating a great deal of waste heat that
must be ventilated in warm weather when the price of electricity is at its peak..
The same lights have a very short lifespan making bulb replacement a recurring
    cost of your system.
The LED Grow Master line of plant lighting uses 90% less energy than the
most efficient HPS with only trace amounts of heat.  Our bars are rated for
100,000 hours  of life with no light degradation.  Lighting with LEDs also
creates a far safer environment for the human element.  LGM products contain
no lead, mercury, or glass parts and represent no shock/burn/or fire hazards.

    Algae
Ever since my first goldfish  I have considered algae as a slimy nuisance.  The
appearance of the green coating that signaled the dreaded cleaning of the tank.
Based on this life long hatred of green stuff on the side of my aquarium, I was
intrigued to discover that this green annoyance not only supports much of the life
on our planet, but also has the potential to provide a promising solution to many
of the problems of our time.
Algae occur in almost every habitat on earth.  We are already using forms of
algae for everything from ice cream to rubber.  You can eat it, fuel your car with
it, and clean your smokestack and wastewater with it.  While we might assume
that a life form that is so widely adaptable to our basic needs would fall into one
of our simple categories- the truth is that "algae" is only a convenient grouping of
    a diverse range of organisms.
The study of the beneficial uses of algae is a new world of potential that we
have only begun to investigate.  By providing a light source without heat we are
better able to mimic the environment of all forms of algae in a controlled
environment.  Algae is temperamental.  By excluding the heat factor of artificial
lighting we are able to move into realms of the new world of research that is yet
unexplored.   LED Grow Master is lighting the way.  --AL
